Location

The Cluster Surface Interactions 2016 Workshop will take place at Argonne National Laboratory, USA, from May 31 to June 3, 2016.

Site Access

Argonne National Laboratory requires all visitors to pre-register in order to be allowed on the Argonne campus.

In preparation of your upcoming visit to Argonne National Laboratory:

Important Note Regarding ID Cards

Effective June 1, 2015, per the 2005 REAL ID Act, Argonne National Laboratory cannot accept driver’s licenses from the following jurisdictions: American Samoa and Minnesota. Argonne will accept alternate forms of photo ID (see list below) for individuals from the identified jurisdictions. This applies only to U.S. citizens; non-U.S. citizens must complete information for the non-U.S. approval process.

Argonne accepts these alternate forms of photo ID.:

  • U.S. passport or passport card
  • Federally issued photo identification, military ID, or other government-issued photo ID cards
  • HSPD-12 card or global entry card
  • Enhanced driver’s licenses or enhanced ID cards issued by the state of Minnesota

Accommodations

A block of single and double rooms has been reserved at the Argonne Guest House from May 30 to June 5, 2016.

These rooms will be held until May 16, 2016.  The price for a room is $75/per night plus 6% room occupancy tax, for single or double occupancy. Check-in will be possible starting May 30, 2016 with check out as late as June 5, 2016.

You should receive a confirmation email within 24 hours of making an online reservation.  The Argonne Guest House does not require a credit card to hold your room.

Please note that the workshop registration fee does not cover accommodations.

Directions

Argonne is easily accessible by car from downtown Chicago, as well as from Chicago’s two airports. (Google Maps)

General directions to Argonne National Laboratory (Northgate Road):

From I-55 take the southbound Cass Avenue exit (273A) to Northgate Road (main entrance); follow Northgate Road to the Argonne Information Center to obtain your visitor pass.  NOTE:  Northgate Road is approximately ¼ mile from I-55.

NOTE: It is best not to follow GPS once on Cass as you may be directed to an old entrance further south.

To reach Argonne from O’Hare International Airport

Proceed east (toward Chicago) on I-190 to the exit for Tri-State Tollway (I-294 south toward Indiana).  Proceed south on I-294 to the exit for Stevenson Expressway (I-55 south toward St. Louis) to exit 273A South Cass Avenue. Exit south on Cass and turn right at the Argonne sign on Northgate Road, immediately south of I-55. Follow Northgate Road to the Argonne Information Center. Total road time is approximately 45 minutes.

Portions tollway (~$1.50 at O’Hare toll; one or two toll booths may be unattended—if renting a car, recommend you obtain an iPass from the car rental agency)

To reach Argonne from Midway Airport

Proceed north on Cicero Avenue to Stevenson Expressway (I-55), proceed southwest (towards St. Louis) on I-55 to exit 273A South Cass Avenue. Exit south on Cass and turn right at the Argonne sign on Northgate Road, immediately south of I-55. Follow Northgate Road to the Argonne Information Center.

To reach Argonne from downtown Chicago

Proceed southwest (towards St. Louis) on Stevenson Expressway (I-55) to exit 273A South Cass Avenue.  Exit south on Cass and turn right at the Argonne sign on Northgate Road, immediately south of I-55. Follow Northgate Road to the Argonne Information Center. Total road time is approximately 40 minutes.

Ground Transportation for Out-of-Town Participants

We recommend that you make an advance reservation with a car service.

While the rates of limo services may include 15% tip, a tip is expected to be paid in addition to the fare if not included in the rate (especially in the the case of cabs).
