Jeff Moore

Lead Principal Investigator, Flowable Redoxmer Science Thrust

Jeff Moore is the Stanley O. Ikenberry Endowed Chair at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and former Director for the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology. His team focuses on molecular and materials science, neuroscience, biomedical imaging, language science, and behavioral health. He is responsible for leading approximately 1,500 researchers from 40+ different campus departments and associated research staff.

Moore served as the Grid Storage Leader and Lead Principal Investigator for the Non-Aqueous Redox Flow Thrust within JCESR collaborating closely with MIT, the University of Michigan, United Technologies Research Center, Berkeley Lab, and Argonne. This work focused on replacing solid electrodes with liquid solutions or suspensions to produce lower costs, higher capacity, and greater flexibility in lithium-ion batteries. JCESR’s original contribution on soluble redox active polymers and colloids filled a 40-year old gap in the understanding of redox polyelectrolytes with new observations and chemical horizons, and it opened exciting opportunities for invention.
