AABC 2014 Scholarship Awards

In the year of 2013, University of Chicago awarded the African-American/Black Club (AABC) as well as the Hispanic Latino Club (HLC) with one check each for the amount of $10,000 for the purpose of using towards our 2014 scholarship fund. Prior to receiving this great gift, the AABC awarded two-$500 scholarships.  This year the AABC will be awarding three one-time scholarships in the amount of $2000 each.  In honor of our dear sister and colleague, Angela C. Black History Month-Lewis Howard Latimer

Lewis Howard Latimer was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, on September 4, 1848, to parents who had fled slavery. Latimer learned the art of mechanical drawing while working at a patent firm. Over the course of his career as a draftsman, Latimer worked closely with Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell, in addition to designing his own inventions including carbon filaments that enabled mass production of the light bulb. » Continue reading “Black History Month-Lewis Howard Latimer”
