Special Event Station N3T – Celebrating Supercomputing + Ham Radio with W9ANL & SC23 SCinet
The club was issued a 1×1 callsign of N3T for Nov 10-17 to celebrate supercomputing.org’s SC23 event along with ANL’s entry into the exascale supercomputing era. This special event station was a collaboration between the ham radio operators working to build SC23 SCinet and W9ANL, showing off the first known QSO using internet-linked amateur radio between Energy Sciences Network sites:
Partnering with the Hudson Valley Digital Network, SCinet operators linked up with Digital Mode Radio (DMR) repeater systems worldwide on a channel dedicated to STEM education. This initiative has sparked insightful conversations, exposing ham radio enthusiasts interested in STEM topics to the cutting-edge developments at SC23. In addition to all of the Echolink & DMR QSOs had from the SC23 show floor, a number of W9ANL members logged special event station contacts using their home FT8 rigs. A total of 229 QSOs were logged from 29 different countries, dozens of QSL cards were mailed.
W9ANL has applied for special event callsign N3T once again for SC24 in November 2024. More details will be shared here closer to the fall.
