Yu Kambe

Project: Inks Enabling Energy-Efficient Displays

Yu Kambe is the Co-founder and CEO of NanoPattern Technologies, a company that is enabling advanced quantum dot display manufacturing. Yu received his B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Cornell University in 2013 and brings with him 4 years of industry experience in device fabrication and electrochemistry. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago Institute for Molecular Engineering (IME).

At Cornell, Yu worked under Prof. Lynden Archer on high rate electrode materials for Li-ion and Li-metal batteries and held the president position for the Materials Research Society (Cornell Chapter). In 2013, following graduation, he joined as a lead project engineer for a formulation startup company in the Silicon Valley called C3Nano Inc. developing next generation transparent conducting films. In 2014 fall, he joined the IME as one of the inaugural Ph.D. students bringing with him over 4 years of cumulative industry experience. At the IME, Yu received the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship and currently studies fundamental ion transport in polymer electrolytes under Prof. Paul Nealey using his knowledge of electrochemistry and microfabrication. He is known in the Chicago entrepreneurship community for being the co-founder of the Innovation and Commercialization Fellowship Program, which trains Ph.D. and Postdoctoral Students to conduct market diligence on pre-disclosure research.
