Recycling & pollution prevention

Double-sided printing

Argonne Operations and U.S. Department of Energy Canon copy machines have been defaulted to two-sided copying. Directions on how to switch to single-sided copying have been affixed to copiers for users’ convenience. Some of the programmatic divisions have also committed to switching to double-sided printing and copying, contributing to the laboratory’s overall savings. Total cost of paper savings from this initiative are projected to be about $35,000 per year. Employees who need help setting their printer default to double-sided printing should contact their information technology representative.

Freecycle@Work

Freecycle@Work is a free social networking site that can optimize the use of Argonne resources and reduce waste and costs. Users may exchange both laboratory and personal property through this system.

Pollution Prevention (P2) program

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!  Save money and reduce strain on the environment. If you see locations that need recycling containers, talk to your building manager. Your building manager will work with Argonne’s Pollution Prevention program manager for container placement.

Sustainable acquisitions

Practice environmental responsibility in your acquisition choices. Employees are able to narrow their procurement searches on AMOS specifically to eco-conscious and recycled-content products. Contact Procurement Specialist Ken Krupa (OCF) with questions about sustainable acquisitions.
