“Organic phase splitting in liquid‒liquid extraction is studied for each combination of two lanthanides and two extractants that impart, respectively, different metal extraction energetics and loading capacities. Using SAXS and XPCS, observed static and dynamic critical exponents for each combination are consistent with the 3D Ising model, indicating pseudo-binary critical behavior in every case. This suggests a dramatically simplified description of phase splitting prevails, despite significant complexity at the nanoscale in these six-component systems.”
