Argonne’s Women in Science and Technology (WIST) program strives to encourage and develop the full potential of women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Each year, WIST works to host the Science Careers in Search of Women (SCSW) conference for young women in high school and the Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (IGED) for girls in eighth grade. Both events inspire students to pursue careers in STEM fields. WIST has hosted SCSW annually since 1987 and IGED since 2001. Combined the two events reach nearly 400 students and 65 instructors in the Greater Chicagoland Area each year. WIST members also participate in a variety of other STEM programs for boys and girls.
