The African American Black Club (AABC) at Argonne has awarded four scholarships to promising local Illinois high school students to help fund their STEM academic goals.
This year’s recipients are:
Angela Harvey Memorial Scholarship – $4,000
- Ivan Diaz – Lindblom Math & Science Academy
AABC Academic Scholarships – $2,000
- Yolonda Bradshaw – Dwight D. Eisenhower High School
- Charles Njoroge – Joliet West High School
- Olamide Adebogun – Thornton Township High School
Recipients are selected based on a variety of factors including grade point average, ACT and SAT test scores, letters of recommendation, an essay detailing their STEM career interests and extracurricular community and employment activities.
“The AABC Club is honored to continue the legacy of Angela Harvey, Argonne’s former DOE/ASO Division Director, with a scholarship to a Lindblom Math & Science Academy graduate.” said Harold Gaines, President of the AABC. “Ms. Harvey, a graduate of Lindblom, passed away in 2011 and worked with the Chicago Public Schools as a science education advocate to introduce young people to Argonne and its science and engineering opportunities.”
Since its inception in 2004 the AABC has promoted cross-cultural awareness, fellowship, professional development, networking, and educational excellence, which benefits the African American/Black community and all employees at Argonne National Laboratory. The AABC scholarships were generously funded by a grant from the University of Chicago’s Office of the Vice President for Research and for National Laboratories. AABC Club activities are also maintained by donations from Argonne National Laboratory employees and the support of Argonne National Laboratory and the Department of Energy.
