Open Postdoc Position (SFG Spectroscopy)

Separation Science group has an opening for a Postdoctoral Appointee to conduct fundamental research centered on liquid surfaces/interfaces of relevance to separation science.

As part of an ongoing program that integrates advanced techniques in surface physics with inorganic, analytical, and physical chemistries the successful candidate will contribute to the development of new capabilities in the area of surface applied optical and vibrational spectroscopies, including all aspects of data acquisition, interpretation, and presentation, both at scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed literature.

Position Requirements

  • Ideally, we are seeking a candidate with considerable experience with optical and vibrational spectroscopy techniques, such as second harmonic generation (SHG) spectroscopy and sum frequency generation (SFG) spectroscopy

  • Considerable practical expertise and demonstrated applications of surface-sensitive measurements, including, tensiometry of liquid-vapor interfaces and Langmuir trough techniques. Considerable experience with surface functionalization and self-assembled monolayer preparation

  • Knowledge of high-resolution synchrotron-based X-ray scattering and spectroscopy techniques (such as X-ray reflectivity, X-ray standing waves, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy) would be a plus

  • Knowledge of liquid-liquid extraction, interfacial physics, data analyses methods.

  • Skill in both written, oral communication, and working interactively and productively in a multidisciplinary environment

  • Ability to work independently on a day-to-day basis

  • Ph.D. degree level with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent
