Since Lisa’s first description of photoinitiated H2 evolution from a PSI-Pt biohybrid assembly in 2011, we have hypothesized that the Pt nanoparticles dock near the terminal electron acceptors in PSI, and now she has cryo-EM proof, published in November in Nature Communications! Obtained with collaborators Gary Brudvig and Chris Gisriel, the cryo-EM structure confirms this hypothesis and reveals the interactions at the nano-bio interface with 2.27-Å resolution. Additional context is in the Argonne press release.
Congratulations Lisa and team on this important advance in our understanding of biohybrid structure and function!
